2015 is about…’Ships

If you partner with the right people, your life can be nothing but fun and games. Is it easy? No, but nothing good comes easy. Trust in your beliefs, your goals and your choices. Others will either want to be be part of your dreams or part of your failures. If you’re lucky, some will even be part of both. Treasure that and them. These people are real and make up the foundation for your success and happiness.

2015 is a new year. Leave all the negative behind – the fights, the anger, the disappointment, the broken promises. Give people a second chance and an opportunity to board your ‘ships. If they appreciate what you have to offer you’ve built a new bridge, a new life and a new friend. Don’t take it or them for granted, but don’t expect them not to. It’s OK. Just be you and let them be them. Remember, you can only change you. So, focus on you.

Go into the new year a different person. Be more positive, less rigid and develop a shorter memory with the small things. We all make mistakes – the world is funny like that. However, don’t lose focus on what and who you want it with and why. Focus on the “Why”.

2015 will be an amazing opportunity to spread your wings. If you can remember who you are and what you want, you will attain them with people who want to part of your magic and beauty. If they don’t, they don’t. It’s unfortunate and, at times, it may hurt for a period of time, but never forget that loss is a part of our daily life. People are born and people die (leave us). It’s the cycle of life and, once again, you can’t change this. Instead, focus on Building ‘Ships with people that matter to you, those you love and your goals and dreams. You have a gift. Spend the time to figure out what it is, then…go use it. Again and again and again. Until it no longer feels like work, but like play. Embrace it, enjoy it and show others theirs. Then, go have fun together.

Want a new life? Just start one. If you can dream, you can do. So, go do.

The Connect Insider

Every year, thousands of Realtors storm San Francisco and New York just to attend Inman News‘ popular Real Estate Connect.  Considered one of the best conferences in the country for real estate professionals, the question remains…is it?  What makes this event among the best? The speakers? The technology insights? The attendees [follow #ICSF]? Maybe, it’s the Ambassadors.  This year we’ll find out as I take an inside look at the happenings at Connect – from an Ambassador’s privileged perspective.

Follow me on this journey as I give a daily account of what happens at Connect, starting Monday, July 14th.

Failure is for Winners

It’s so easy to quit. Yet quitting and failing aren’t necessary the same thing. Here are some examples of failures that weren’t quitters: Michael Jordan, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and the biggest failure, Abraham Lincoln.

Believe it not, these amazing people all failed big time before making a name for themselves as winners. In fact, the self-made and self-taught attorney, Abraham Lincoln, lost almost every major political election before winning his last one – the President of the United States.

However, where these people differ from the every day quitters is this. They failed again and again, but refused to quit. They remained as passionate and determined as the day they set their eyes and mind on their goal(s).

So, what sets them apart from you? Only you can determine that.

Wicked Smaht

For years, we struggle with figuring out our being, our place and our worth.  Although, many things make up our mold, we ultimately make up the “me” factor.  Many people smarter than me will tell you that we’re made up of a melting pot from our family, our environment and our friends.  However, there’s a very important part of the recipe that I personally think they’re forgetting – YOU.  I may be wrong, as my wife so often tells me, but YOU make the last and final decision for every cause and effect in your life. Right?  Then, if you’ve had any sign of success in your life, who should get the credit?  Exactly.

So, does this make you “smaht”?  It should, right?  Of course, where there’s success there’s also failure. I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of that, as well. Who hasn’t?  Yet, after those failures, you’re still standing, you’re still walking and you’re still living.  I’d say that again makes you a success. No?  Ok, did you know that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death worldwide?  I consider this mind numbing data with a heavy heart, as many families are dealing with this pain every day.  Yet, notwithstanding mental illness, this event comes down to a single decision; a decision that we each have the possibility of making every day.  So, while some of us do, many of us do not – we keep on living.  In fact, we keep on succeeding.

There are stories upon stories of children growing up in poverty and just as many stories of people making success from this travesty.  So, again, what determines “success”?  YOU do.  Why?  Simple, actually.  Success is not one thing, it’s many things – carefully orchestrated like the notes in an elegant symphony.  Those who find success do so from making the “right” decisions, time and time again.  They understand that the wrong decisions in life can end opportunities, so they choose the decisions more fruitful.  Is success an overnight story?  Not whatsoever.  Even the simplest of success stories take months, years or even decades to foster and build.  Moreover, this success, again, is not one or two things done right, but hundreds, thousands or even millions of decisions made consciously for one reason – to succeed.

Now, this brings me back to the original question, “Are you smart?”  According to your peers, friends and family, you may be smarter than you know, but you may still not think so.  However, there are various levels of success.  The real question is, “How smaht are you to be able to succeed at what you want to do?”  Remember, success is not one step, but many steps done, time and time again – to perfection.  If you want to succeed, don’t think of epic decisions.  Just make one and then another and then another, until you find yourself creating positive habits that evolve into right decisions that turn into…success.  Sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it?  That’s because you’re “wicked smaht”.
